A few checks we do when on maintenance visit for your Rooftop Solar Plant:

Following are the few points we check for during our maintenance visit:

  • The connection device between the solar module and the wire which might be black in colour, is called a MC4 connector. See if there is any unusual movement between the male and female locks of the MC4 connector, we generally replace the pair.

  • At the input and output of your grid-tied inverter there would be two boxes containing safety instruments. The health of these components is very vital. We check if there are any signs of burning or failure of these components and replace them immediately if required.

  • We check the connections going in the inverter, to ensure they are not having any play. If there is any small play in them, then it is immediately fixed as per the inverter manufacturing company norms. Any small play may cause sparking which can go further and damage the whole system substantially.

  •  Using a voltmeter and clamp-meter, see the voltage and ampere readings of the DC output wire is take, which is the wire that is coming out of your DCDB box. Then we correlate them with the expected values provided by the solar panels and inverter installer.

  • Check the bolts which are holding the solar panels if they are tightly screwed and there is no play. A small negligible play right now can go ahead and cause structural failures due to fatigue.

  • We also keep a spray paint bottle trying to match the colour of your rooftop solar structure. Thus if we see any places where rust has started to grow, we spray on it immediately.

Our Rooftop Solar Plant cleaning service checklist:

  • First we remove any dust which might be present on the solar panel or solar inverter by dry cloth, especially on the area where fans might be present if your inverter has one.

  • Solar Modules require the maximum amount of cleaning maintenance thus cleaning activities are majorly concentrated around them. Cleaning of the solar plant is generally done by using soft water and a soft mob with a long telescopic stick to enable us to reach the far away corners.

  • After this, we visually inspect the solar panels to judge how intense second cleaning cycle is required. If there are many bird dropping spots, some hardened dirt particles or anything of this sort, then we perform another round of a deep cleaning cycle.

  • Using a wet mob, we then remove all the easily removable dirt and dust particles accumulated on the solar panels. The hard ones might remain still, but let them be for now as mob might not be the best tool to remove them and in the process the mob might leave scratches on the solar panel.

  • If still some dirt remains, then a thick but soft sponge or cloth is used, immersed in water and then rubbed on the hard dirt spots. Bird droppings are the toughest ones to remove. If they still don’t budge after this cycle, then as a last resort we use special cleaning detergents for solar panels. This cycle ensures all the dust particles are removed and your solar panels perform at the optimal level !
